A Change from the past

Ingersoll Gender Center has been serving our community for thirty years and a holiday celebration for the Transgender community has long been a part of the Ingersoll tradition. In 2006, Ingersoll joined the Seattle LGBT Center and put on a bigger and better even than it had ever before. It was an event that said: We’re here, were, proud and confident, with a lot to celebrate and a lot to offer and the whole community is invited. That was the first year that we branded our winter celebration “SnowBall”. This year we are changing the formula a bit and making SnowBall dress-up dance event/ball… a Snow Ball.

Seattle is an informal town but every now and then it’s a blast to really dress up, go out, show off and shake your thing and have a great time for a great cause. Snowball will be a high energy fun even that keeps the action rolling while highlighting the successes of 2007 and the challenges and promise of 2008.

The Change We Want to See

This year, the proceeds from SnowBall will help to put on an employment fair and conference to promote economic empowerment and justice for the Transgender community of Greater Seattle and the Puget Sound region. Despite landmark legislation in the last year, unemployment and underemployment continue to be substantial challenges in the Trans community. The Seattle Transgender Employment Initiative is focused on increasing opportunity, education and visibility and kick-starting an ongoing initiative to address this deep and fundamental need. This year, funds will be put toward a first annual Transgender employment and career expo and conference.
